New course, new information!

The new academic year is officially starting this week, so I would like to welcome my new students as well as all TEI newcomers! This blog will be regurarly updated providing you with lots of information on EU matters, as well as on the present course.
For the time being, I could provide you with some titles of this year's lesson plans hoping that you will get a clear impression of this course's main aims and content. I would also like you to spend some time reading and suggesting your own ideas about the "Questions/suggestions/arrangements" section below.

Overall lesson plan

* Lesson 1: From Communities to the European Union-Historical Review (short presentation of founding treaties)

* Lesson 2: Europe Day-European symbols

* Lesson 3: What does the EU do? (policies, aims, benefits)

* Lesson 4: Introduction to the European Institutions-European Parliament

* Lesson 5: European Commission

* Lesson 6: Council of the European Union

* Lesson 7: EU and external trade

* Lesson 8 : EU: internal market, taxation, economic and monetary affairs

* Lesson 9: Presentation of basic EU terms/issues (summary)


General aims-objectives of the course

* EU issues/thematic areas comprehension

* Elaboration and expansion on EU terminology

* Presentations of case studies analyses-eurobarometers

* Practice of reading, speaking, writing skills on relevant texts

* Presentation of students’ projects and on relevant EU issues


Questions/suggestions/arrangements

§ time-duration of sessions (with or without breaks)

§ suggestions on the percentage of grades (in relation to mid-terms, projects etc)

§ projects-mid terms (by students)

§ selection of topics by students-presentations

§ communication through email and blog for further questions, homework, self study, notifications, extra reading material

Welcome back!

Hi, everyone! Back from holiday at last and back to our everyday routines....I would like to wish you all a happy and fruitful new school/academic year!!! There are many new things going on in the EU and I will be informing you about the ones that I believe would be of more interest to you... and me!
